In working towards enhancing understanding and restoring function, Yoga Therapy works with the traditions and wisdom of Yogic teachings. This can include application of any number of specific Yogic and/or other interventions including asana, pranayama, mudra, restoratives, relaxation techniques, meditation, ayurveda, marmani, chakra therapy, acupressure, reiki, past-life work, and spiritual counseling.  A Yoga therapist is guided in their work based on their own personal practice, training, study, experience, knowledge, and intuition.

Yoga Therapy is a subset of Yoga, and is low-tech and experience-based, offering healing at a very deep level, affecting all of the koshas, not just the material body.  When working with individuals or groups the Yoga Therapist practices safety (ahimsa) and service (seva) while moving towards mitigating or removing suffering (dukha.)  Yoga Therapy can be applied to various illnesses, dis-eases, injuries and mood disorders, and will complement the client's work with medical professionals or other types of practitioners, who the Yoga therapist will also refer the client to when deemed helpful or necessary.

Specifically guided intentional movement, breathing, and other practices can release trauma, old thought patterns, blocked energy (or prana), and wake up areas of the body that may have amnesia - our bodies need to move in order for healing to take place.  The saying goes "the issues are in the tissues" and what makes Yoga different is that we are working with prana, which has it's own intelligence - the Yoga Therapist holds a safe space while guiding the recipient through their process, ultimately allowing their own innate system of healing to remember how to successfully move past the obstacles.

In my own practice, I am seeing more and more students and clients who have come to Yoga, sometimes sent by their medical practitioner, who report experiencing a deeper, more holistic healing and recovery, as well as overall feelings of well-being and a clearer sense of purpose and self.

Sessions include a complete, confidential, and professional assessment, and are tailored to the needs of the individual or groups with similar needs. "Kim Sellers is a gifted and wonderful yoga therapist. Kim has helped me regain substantial mobility in my frozen shoulder. During each session, she leads me through a sequence of poses to strengthen and heal. I continually feel more flexible, mindful and hopeful through my ongoing work with Kim."

– Dr. Anne García-Romero, Ph.D. University of Notre Dame

"Kim is the finest Yoga teacher I've ever had and I go way back. She's more than that - a true healer. I have learned a great deal from her about taking care of myself - mind and body. She's the very best."

~ Jill G., Professor Emeritus, University of Notre Dame
